New York City put out a new request for expressions of interest to purchase a fee interest or long-term lease and develop 7 acres of land near John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens’ Springfield Gardens neighborhood.

“This is an ideal location for businesses that benefit from the proximity to JFK International Airport,” according to the New York City Economic Development Corp.

The vacant, irregularly shaped lot runs along the south side of Rockaway Boulevard, the north side of the Nassau Expressway and sits to the west of the Federal Aviation Administration building. The area has one of the largest concentrations of customs brokers, freight forwarders and other airport-related industrial facilities, the New York Observer reported.

The city said that the site could host a “modern campus with industrial and/or commercial programming.” Submissions are due May 4. [NYO] — Tess Hofmann
